If you’ve ever been to Barcelona then you know the views overlooking the city are unlike anything else. Barcelona is renowned for its beautiful architecture and color scheme. The best way to enjoy all of this beauty is, of course, from above. You can take the Teleférico Del Puerto, the Telefèric de Montjuic, or climb up the Columbus monument to see 360 degree breathtaking views that the kids will enjoy too. The cable cars are a fun and interactive way for the kids to appreciate the view as much as the adults do. It’s like a lower scale amusement park ride! Check out all that Barcelona has to offer before you have to leave it. Here you will find things to do in Barcelona with kids.

Teleférico Del Puerto

Best Views in Barcelona for the Kids

If you’re looking for an easy way to get from the beach to the mountain, Teleferico del Puerto is the perfect way to do so. Your journey begins in a tower, reigning at 70 meters high, which is about a 2 minute walk from the main area of the beach in Barceloneta. You can purchase tickets at the tower for 11 euros one way and a round trip for 16.50 euros. There is a wait time of about 20 minutes to get inside the cable cars but it is not one anyone would likely be complaining about. The views from up above are absolutely amazing. You can see the full stretch of the beach, the whole marina, Sagrada Familia, the Barcelona Cathedral, La Rambla, and more. There is actually a restaurant up there as well. So if you really enjoy the views you should go back again and eat at Torre D’Alta Mar. You will need a reservation and a nice dress and tie because this place is quite fancy.

Once inside the car you will take about an 8 minute trip across the marina up into Montjuic. The kids will love flying high above the water watching the ships pull into the harbor. The 360 degree views are incredible and the trip is short enough that your kids won’t be fussing. Once you’ve landed you will walk out to see an ice cream stand, perfect snack for the kids, and a little cafe for coffee and tapas. Hotel Miramar, Martinez restaurant, and Costa i Llobera Garden are very close by and are not spots to miss as well.

A Little History

Best Views in Barcelona for the Kids

The cable car was first designed in 1926 by Carles Buigas, Ramon Calzado, and Josep Roda. The three men sought to create a way to connect the people of Barcelona to Montjuic. Their idea was to make the cable car a new means of transportation that was easy, cost efficient, and fun. Construction began in 1929 and was finished in 1931, but once the Spanish Civil War broke out operation had to cease. The cables were removed and the towers were then used as a place for defense instead. Following the war, about 20 years later, the Company Teleféricos de Barcelona took over the towers and started operating the cable cars once again. The car has been running ever since. They are constantly updating and upgrading the towers so they can withstand the plentitude of people passing through each day. Take a step into history and fly across beautiful Barcelona.

Telefèric De Montjuïc

Best Views in Barcelona for the Kids

Similar to the Teleferico Del Puerto, the Teleferic de Montjuic offers gorgeous views of Barcelona’s most beloved mountain, Montjuic. Montjuic is home to a lot of Barcelona’s important history like the Olympic Games and the castle that sits atop its peak. There are charming gardens and water features all over the mountain to see from the cable car. The car leaves at Parc de Montjuic which is just steps away from the metro station. It then goes up to Castell de Montjuic and Mirador which is a lovely garden area with wonderful views of the city. The total length of the trip is 752 meters. You can choose to just do a one way trip for 8.40 euros for adults and 6.60 for kids, or a round trip for 12.7 euros for adults and 9.2 euros for kids. You can purchase tickets in person at the Parc de Montjuic stop or online for 10% off.

The panoramic view of Montjuic is absolutely breathtaking. M0ntjuic offers so much to explore by foot but it is also nice to see this bird’s eye view to really take it all in. We recommend a sunset lift because nothing compares to the beautiful golden light bouncing off of Barcelona’s architecture.

Columbus Monument

Best Views in Barcelona for the Kids

The Columbus Monument is a little different than the other two options we have previously mentioned since it is not a cable car, but it is just as great. Walk up to the top and see views of the marina and the infamous La Rambla. This spot is perfect following a stroll down La Rambla since it sits right at the end of the street. The whole thing is about 47 meters high. The Christopher Columbus statue at the top is about 7.2 meters high. The statue is meant to depict Columbus pointing towards the new world. The whole thing was created in honor of his first voyage to America. He reported the news of this new world to King Ferdinand V who lived and ruled in Barcelona at the time. The statue is meant to honor this voyage and his arrival to Barcelona with news of his discoveries. The monument was built in 1888 and took about 6 years for it to be completed.

The walk up to the top is quite tight and packed so this might not be the best option for the claustrophobic. It is 5.40 euros for adults and 3.60 euros for kids. You can purchase tickets online or in person as well. Take the kids and enjoy another beautiful view and a great part of Barcelona’s history.
