By 24 October 2019To visit

In Barcelona, chocolate is more than just a tasty treat. Ever since the 15th century, when chocolate was first sold and distributed throughout Europe from the Barcelona Port, the product has played an important role in the economic and social fabric of the city. Because of this rich history, the best place to learn about and enjoy chocolate with your family is right here in Barcelona at the Museu de la Xocolata

The Chocolate Museum

The Museu de la Xocolata, located in the neighborhood of El Born, has something to offer for chocolate lovers of all ages. From the moment you enter the museum, housed in the former Sant Agustí monastery, the scent of chocolate will overwhelm your senses. With your ticket, you will even get a bar of chocolate that you can enjoy after your visit!

The Museum dives deep into the history of chocolate. It explains how the candy that we all know and love came to be, from its origin to current use, while paying particular attention to Catalan traditions relating to the sweet.

But, the museum does so much more than tell the history of chocolate. It also displays artwork made of chocolate, because who says that candy can’t be art too? You will find intricate sculptures of Barcelona landmarks like The Sagrada Familia and characters from popular movies like Star Wars, Chicken Little, and UP, all made entirely out of chocolate! This sweet artwork never fails to impress. Everyone in the family will enjoy looking at the sculptures, even if they don’t have a sweet tooth! And, the kids will love to see their favorite characters made out of their favorite sweet treat. They may even be encouraged to try and create a chocolate masterpiece of their own!

After taking in all of the history and artwork, you can enjoy pastries and chocolate at the Museum’s cafe.
